オーシャンパワー・テクノロジー Ocean Power Technologies、ハワイのブイ型波力発電装置 PowerBuoy(R) の米初の系統連系運用を開始

　日本での波力発電の計画があるとされる、オーシャンパワー・テクノロジー Ocean Power Technologies のブイ型発電装置 PowerBuoy(R)が、ハワイのKaneohe Bayの海軍基地内の実験サイトにおいて、アメリカ初の波力発電による系統連系による運用を開始しました。
　2009年の12月に設置されたブイ型の波力発電装置 PB40-PowerBuoy(R) は、海岸から1kmほどのところの水深30mほどのところで今回の運用実験にむけて準備をされてきました。PB40-PowerBuoy(R)の出力は40kWでサイズは、直径約3.6mで縦の長さが16.5mほどです。運用中は大半の部分が海中に没します。波の上下運動に合わせて上下する浮きが海面に浮いた状態で固定された形になるリング状のフロートの空洞部分を上下することで発電を行ないます。
　これらの運用実験で得られたデーターは、同社が世界各地で今後展開する波力発電プロジェクトや大型の150kW機となるPB150-PowerBuoy(R) の開発に供されるということです。

　現在同社のホームページでアナウンスされているハワイ以外のプロジェクトは、Atlantic City(New Jersey)、ReedsportおよびCoos Bay(Oregon)と海外のSantona( Spain)、Orkney Isles(Scotland)、Hayle(England)、そして具体的な内容は未定のようですが、日本でのプロジェクトなどがあり、今回のハワイでの実績やイギリスのオークニーでの欧州の海洋エネルギー開発拠点での成果などが期待されるところです。

・Ocean Power Technologies Completes First-Ever Grid Connection of a Wave Energy Device in the US-----OPT

" Ocean Power Technologies, Inc. (Nasdaq: OPTT and London Stock Exchange AIM: OPT) (“OPT” or the “Company”) announces that it has completed the first-ever grid connection of a wave energy device in the United States at the Marine Corps Base Hawaii (“MCBH”), in conjunction with the US Navy. This connection demonstrates the ability of OPT’s PowerBuoyR systems to produce utility-grade, renewable energy that can be transmitted to the grid in a manner fully compliant with national and international standards.

The PB40 PowerBuoy is part of OPT’s ongoing program with the US Navy to develop and test the Company’s PowerBuoy wave energy technology. The project began as a Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) program at the Office of Naval Research (ONR). Key program goals include demonstrating system reliability and survivability, and the successful interconnection with the grid serving MCBH.

The PowerBuoy was deployed on December 14, 2009 approximately three-quarters of a mile off the coast of Oahu in water depth of 100 feet. To date, the PowerBuoy has operated and produced power from over 3 million power take-off cycles and 4,400 hours of operation.

　この計画は、150kW波力発電機 PB150-PowerBuoy(R) 10基、合計1.5MWの規模で計画が進んでいます。そして、500kWの波力発電機 PB500の開発に向けての動きも政府の肝入りで加速しています。European Marine Energy Centre (EMEC)で建造中のPB150-PowerBuoy(R)もまもなく実際の海での成果が具体的にわかります。日本でも波力発電への研究は東京都ななどでも始まっていると言われます。風力発電の世界の動きで驚きを禁じ得無いのが、企業の新しい活力と新たな雇用を産み出してきた世界の大から小までのさまざまな規模の動きと力強さです。その動きは中国、インドも巻き込み、世界の新しい産業を産み出しています。この動きには完全に乗り遅れた日本、周囲を海に囲まれたこの国の新しい産業基盤として、そろそろ海洋エネルギーに目を向けていってほしいと強く思います。(t_t)
