ヴァーダントパワー Verdant Power、ニューヨークでその有効性が評価された潮流発電システムの開発で中国企業と契約

ニューヨークのマンハッタン島の南側のイーストリバーに潮流発電機を設置して実施されたVerdant Power社のThe RITE Projectの本格稼働にむけての実証実験は、今年のはじめにその実証実験が評価され、今後East Riverにより本格的な実証モデルの建設が決まりました。

　今後この計画は、ニューヨーク市が実施する最大500MWにもなると予想される大規模な河口付近の潮流を利用した水中発電システムとなる可能性があります。とりあえず、3基の設置が今年予算化されています。

　そのヴァーダントパワー Verdant Power社、今度は潮流発電システムの開発で中国企業と契約したということです。

" Verdant Power has signed an MOU with the China Energy Conservation Environment Protection Group (CECEP) (formerly CECIC), China’s leading renewable energy company, to develop tidal power projects in China. The MOU is the first of its kind between China and the U.S. involving marine and hydrokinetic power projects.

U.S. Commerce Secretary Gary Locke and U.S. Ambassador to China Jon Huntsman were on hand to witness the signing. The MOU will provide a framework for collaboration on siting and operating Verdant Power tidal and river power systems in China and on an international scale. "

Current Applications
Through the RITE Project Phase 2 Demonstration, Verdant Power proved the 4th Generation (Gen4) Free Flow System as an efficient source of renewable energy. The system delivered 70 megawatt hours of grid-connected energy from the tides of the East River to NYC customers with no power quality problems.

The Free Flow System has now been advanced to the next generation (Gen5), which is planned for installation at the following projects in 2010/11:

　プロトタイプは、直径6m-35kWモデルでした。今年から建設されている(Gen5)モデル、MW-Scaleの本格可動モデルの詳細は明らかではありません。詳細が明らかになる今年末からの様子が楽しみです。
　このモデルは、流れの方向が一定の河口などに向いているということですから、まさに海洋に注ぐ大河をもち、ダム建設の必要のないこのモデルは、中国には向いているといえそうです。

　それにしてもニューヨーク州の電力事業者の地図を見ると、さまざまな電力会社があり、日本との事情の違いが際立ちますね。それぞれの電力会社のサービスの内容なども、調べれといろいろと参考になりそうです。(t_t)
