波力発電のオーシャンパワー・テクノロジー Ocean Power Technologies、三井造船と出光興産、日本風力開発などと波力発電所建設計画に合意。日本初の本格的な海洋エネルギー発電プラント、2012年には登場か!?

　オーシャンパワー・テクノロジー社の波力発電システムは、オレゴンやハワイ、イギリス、スペイン、オーストラリアで具体的な計画が進んでいます。そして、今回オーシャンパワー・テクノロジー社のアナウンスによりますと、日本初の本格的な波力発電所建設計画の実施へと、三井造船と出光興産、日本風力開発との間で合意したということです。まずは10MWの波力発電所の建設を開始するということです。
　同社のシステムは、PowerBuoy(TM)という発電ブイを海上に数多くならべ、海中の送電網により合計で大きな発電量を生み出す能力があります。PowerBuoy(TM)一基あたりの容量は、スペインで利用されたPB40ESが40kW、さらに最大規模の150kWのPB150なども用意されています。

・Ocean Power Technologies Signs Agreement for Development of Wave Power Station in Japan

" Ocean Power Technologies, Inc. (Nasdaq: OPTT and London Stock Exchange AIM: OPT) (“OPT” or “the Company”) is pleased to announce it has signed an exclusive agreement with a consortium of three leading Japanese companies to develop a demonstration wave power station in Japan. The Japanese consortium comprises Idemitsu Kosan Co., Mitsui Engineering & Shipbuilding Co., and Japan Wind Development Co. (the “Consortium”). Further, OPT has been invited to become a member of the Tokyo Wave Power Initiative, a committee including the city of Tokyo, regional governments and national agencies involved in the promotion of new energy sources.

This agreement is the Company’s first project in Japan and is in line with OPT’s global strategy to form alliances with strategic partners in key markets. OPT now has a range of power generation projects globally, including those in Oregon and Hawaii, USA; Scotland and Southwest England; Spain; Australia; and Japan.

The initial phase of the project will be for OPT and the Consortium to work with the Japanese government to increase the recognition of wave power in Japanese energy policy, and to identify favorable sites for OPT wave power stations and assess their commercial prospects. Subject to the successful identification of a project site and completion of economic assessments, the parties plan to enter into an agreement to build a demonstration plant with up to three of the Company’s PowerBuoysR. The trial plant would provide the basis for the expected building of a commercial-scale OPT wave power station with an initial capacity of 10MW or more. Total output from the wave power station would be sold to electric utilities, and at 10MW, could provide power for up to 3,000 households in Japan.

　発電のしくみは、上の動画を見るとわかります。結構シンプルな作りと動作で、これだけの大きなエネルギーを生み出すポテンシャルがあるということに驚きました。
　オーシャンパワー・テクノロジーのブイは、東京都が検討会を立ち上げた際にも話題になりました。日本人が選んだこのシステム、どのような経緯で選定されたのかはわかりませんが、日本の海での活躍を１日でも早く見せていただきたいと思います。(t_t)

The new system will undergo testing at MES's wave tank facilities to verify the results of extensive computer modeling.
