日本の国別環境指標ランキング2010（Environmental Performance Index）は、20位

　ダボス会議で2年毎に発表されている163カ国を対象にした国別環境指標ランキング2010（Environmental Performance Index）は、日本はスコアは下げたものの順位は20位でした。今年のスコアは、72.5で2008年版では、84.5（21位）。いずれにしろ、日本は高い評価を受けていると思います。
　日本より上位、前後のスコアの国を見ると、1位Iceland(93.5)、2位Switzerland(89.1)、3位Costa Rica(86.4)、4位Sweden(86.0)と、人口の少ない環境先進国が並んでいます。納得のできる順位です。G8参加国では、7位にFrance(78.2)、14位United Kingdom(74.2)があり、17位Germany(73.2)、18位Italy（73.1）が日本より上位にきています。アメリカは、61位(63.5)。その他では、62位Brazil(63.4)、69位Russia(61.2)、121位China(49.0)、123位India(48.3)などです。まずは、国民レベルの取り組み、そして経済的な豊かさがランキング上位の国には求められているようです。日本は豊かな風土に支えられているという気がしました。あとは、政策しだいでさらに上位に上ることも可能でしょう。

Iceland leads the world in addressing pollution control and natural resource
management challenges, according to the 2010 Environmental Performance Index (EPI) produced by a
team of environmental experts at Yale University and Columbia University. This is the third edition of
the EPI, which has been revisited biannually since 2006.
Released today at the World Economic Forum Annual Meeting 2010, the EPI ranks 163 countries on
their performance across 25 metrics aggregated into ten categories including: environmental health, air
quality, water resource management, biodiversity and habitat, forestry, fisheries, agriculture, and
climate change.
Iceland’s top-notch performance derives from its high scores on environmental public health,
controlling greenhouse gas emissions, and reforestation. Other top performers include Switzerland,
Costa Rica, Sweden, and Norway . all of which have made substantial investments in environmental
infrastructure, pollution control, and policies designed to move toward long-term sustainability.
Occupying the bottom five positions are Togo, Angola, Mauritania, the Central African Republic, and
Sierra Leone .impoverished countries that lack basic environmental amenities and policy capacity.

　指標となる10の項目は、(1) Environmental Burden of Disease; 疾病対策、(2) Water Resources for Human Health; 健全なる飲料水の確保、(3) Air Quality for Human Health; 健全なる室内空気環境の確保、(4) Air Quality for Ecosystems;大気環境の確保、 (5) Water Resources for Ecosystems; 水資源の涵養と管理、(6) Biodiversity and Habitat; 生物多様性と生息地の保全、(7) Forestry; 林業、(8) Fisheries; 漁業、(9)Agriculture;農業、 (10) Climate Change；気候変動対策となっています。各項目は、細かいチェック項目により採点され、総合点が計算されています。
　ちなみに、一位はアイスランド2008年版では11位でした。（2008年版の1位はスイス）
　各国の取り組み、状況の差を細かくみていければ、かなり興味深いことが理解できそうです。

　ダボス会議、スイスで開催された世界経済フォーラムの年次総会に関する報道あまりありませんねぇ。結構、この国別環境指標ランキング以外でも注目される資料が結構あるんですが。今年は、twitterでも情報が流れWorld Economic Forum (davos) on Twitterは、1,550,872人ものフォロアーを集めていました。さらに気候変動や経済、国別の評価など興味深い資料、指標がたくさん公開されています。(t_t)
