豪Oceanlinx社、シドニーで波力発電所建設計画が本決まり、波力利用の実用化に向けて動きだした

　オーストラリアのOceanlinxが2005年からテスト運用していた波力発電所が無事に試験を終了し、シドニーで正式に運用が開始されることが決まったと発表がありました。オーシャンリンクス社のシステムも最近塩害から発電部分の機器を守ることができるということで世界中で開発競争が繰り広げられているOWC（oscillating water column）方式です。同社のユニークな点は、フロート（人工浮島）と沿岸部にすえつける二つのタイプを用意している点です。また、油井リグのような構造体にも取り付けることができ、将来的には上部で風力発電、基部で波力発電という複合発電の開発も視野にいれての研究も行う方針のようです。

" Oceanlinx, a leading renewable energy company, based in Australia with a unique and commercially efficient
system for extracting energy from ocean waves, is pleased to announce that it successfully re-deployed its fullscale
wave energy conversion unit at Port Kembla (south of Sydney) in early February 2009.
First deployed in 2005, the unit has been undergoing planned refurbishment and modifications over the past
few months. Work is now in progress to re-commission the unit and continue the test and trial program.
Oceanlinx’s Chief Executive, Stuart Bensley, said “The modifications to the Port Kembla unit while it was in port
was part of a structured program to apply continuous improvement to our technology. The re-deployment of
this unit is a key step in the Company’s technology development and commercialisation program.” "

　同社の進行中のプロジェクトを紹介するページに紹介されていた緯度と経度でGoogle Earthに同波力発電所を表示させたのが上で紹介した地図の画像です。実際に設置されている様子がGoogle マップでも確認できますので臨場感があり、かしこいシステムの紹介の方法ですね。また何年かしたら、画像が更新されるかもしれませんね。

　さて、同社のシステムは、シドニー以外では、アメリカでハワイで2.7MWとロードアイランドで1.5MW、イングランドのサウスウエストで5MWの発電ユニット、さらにはメキシコ、オーストラリアなどで波力発電所開発計画に採用されるということです。

京都議定書の批准で、注目されるオーストラリアの自然エネルギー関連の動き

　バリで14日まで開催されている国連気候変動枠組み条約締約国会議(COP13)の会議が始まった時に、会場から大きな喝采をあびた出来事は、オーストラリアが、ケビン・ラッド首相の公約どおり京都議定書への参加についてアピールしたときだったようです。

　これにより活気づくことが予想される豪州には、結構ユニークなプランも多く注目していきたいと思います。オーストラリアの自然エネルギー関連のBBSやブログでは、賛否が分かれながらも中国の存在が結構目だっています。そのあたりの情報にも注目してみていきたいと思います。

" Australian clean energy businesses are leaving the embarrassment of the past behind as they prepare to inject an additional $A20 billion (NZ$23b) into new projects over the next decade, following the Rudd government's ratification of the Kyoto Protocol.

Until now, the Australian renewable energy industry has lagged the rest of the developed world, and even some developing countries like China and India, due to a lack of political will and regulatory support.
