The Model S can be recharged from any 120V, 208V or 240V outlet or quick-charged from an external direct current supply in only 45 minutes. You can recharge the car during rest stops or meal breaks, enabling the Model S to go from LA to New York in approximately the same time as a gasoline car.
The Model S does 0-60 mph in 5.6 seconds, and will have an electronically limited top speed of 130 mph. A 17-inch touchscreen with in-car 3G connectivity means you can listen to Pandora Radio or consult Google Maps, or check the car’s state of charge remotely on your iPhone.
The anticipated base price of the Model S is $49,900 after a federal tax credit of $7,500. The $5,000 reservation fee is refundable, and the car is a better value than far cheaper cars.

" BMW Group to pilot test 500 cars in North America
BMW Group will present the new, electrically-powered MINI E to the global media for the first time at the Los Angeles Auto Show on 19/20 November 2008. 500 MINI E vehicles will then be shipped to the US states of California, New York and New Jersey for testing with private and corporate customers.
The development of the MINI E underlines BMW Group’s commitment to reducing fuel consumption and CO2 emissions in road traffic, without compromise to the driving experience. The 500 cars bound for North America will offer BMW Group the opportunity to evaluate ownership potential for vehicles supplied with an electric power supply. BMW Group aims to begin series production in the medium term of all-electric vehicles as part of the company’s Number ONE strategy.
The cars will be delivered to customers on a one-year lease with an extension option. Monthly lease installments will cover any required technical service including all necessary maintenance and the replacement of wearing parts. At the end of the lease, all of the automobiles belonging to the project will be returned to the BMW Group’s engineering fleet where they will be subjected to comparative tests.
MINI E specification and performance
The MINI E’s electric drive train produces a peak torque of 220 Nm, and power is delivered to the front wheels via a single-stage helical gearbox. This unique engine and transmission arrangement powers the MINI E seamlessly to 62 mph in 8.5 seconds and on to an electronically-limited top speed of 95 mph.
Based on the current MINI Hatch, the car will initially be available as a two-seater. The space normally inhabited by rear passengers is reserved for a lithium-ion battery.
When in use in the zero-emissions MINI, the battery unit combines high output with ample storage capacity and remarkable power output. The lithium-ion storage unit will have a maximum capacity of 35 kilowatt hours (kWh) and transmit energy to the electric motor as direct current at a nominal 380 volts. The rechargeable battery is made up of 5,088 cells grouped into 48 modules. These modules are packaged into three battery elements that are compactly arranged inside the MINI E.
The energy storage unit’s basic components are based on technologies proven in power supply units for mobile phones and portable computers. The MINI E’s lithium-ion battery can be plugged into all standard power outlets. Its charge time is strongly dependent on the voltage and amperage of the electricity flowing through the grid. In the USA, users can recharge a battery that has been completely drained within a very short period of time using a wallbox that will be supplied as standard with every MINI E.
The wallbox will be installed in the customer’s garage, enable higher amperage, and thus provide for extremely short charging times. Wallboxes fully recharge batteries in just two-and-a-half hours. Only lockable garages or similar buildings will qualify as power stations for the MINI E.
Driven by electricity: zero emissions at minimal cost
A full recharge draws a maximum of 28 kilowatt hours of electricity from the grid. Based on the car’s range, a kilowatt hour translates into 5.4 miles. Besides the benefit of zero-emissions driving, the MINI E thus offers significant economic advantages over a vehicle powered by a conventional internal combustion engine.

" Solo kiting on the Pacific
From San Francisco to the French Polynesian Islands
2008: Anne Quemere’s new challenge
The only woman to row across the Atlantic Ocean in both directions on the Southern and Northern routes and on a third occasion, again kiting solo the Atlantic from New York to France.
This time, Anne Quemere will challenge the Pacific Ocean over 7000 kilometres.
She will kite from San Francisco to the French Polynesian Islands, crossing from the Northern to the Southern hemisphere and Equator’s infamous “doldrums” also known as the Intertropical Convergence Zone.
Anne Quemere’s determination, courage and perseverance have been well established by her three previous crossings of the Atlantic Ocean.
2008 will be the year of yet a more demanding challenge and sports event. She will establish a new route for kite sailing on an ocean which bears but a peaceful name.
Three objectives arise from this new challenge:
・Update technological innovations : the challenge will be a wonderful occasion to collect scientific data
・Selflessness, imagination and feelings will be highlighted. These methods will allow everyone to follow in true time this undoubtedly trying adventure
・The challenge will concentrate on the development of renewable energy
Anne Quemere or a lifetime on the oceans
Born in Quimper of the Finistere region (France), Anne Quemere is still the only woman to have rowed solo and without assistance across the Atlantic Ocean both ways. She completed these feats by rowing the Trade Winds and then the Northern routes.
During the summer of 2006, Anne Quemere succeeded a yet unseen method of crossing the Atlantic Ocean. She set out from New York, heading to Ouessant (France), again sailing solo and without assistance, relying on the Oceankite, a five metre prototype propelled by kites.
This was a World’s first.
The goal of this challenge was to prove it could be done and it was!
Important technical considerations were surmounted, yet there are numerous improvements to be carried out (mastering the sailing techniques, the weather, speed and complex manoeuvring of the kites themselves).
The adventure had to continue…
With the experience she gathered with the 2006 Atlantic Challenge, both from human and technical standpoints, Anne Quemere wanted more answers for this new type of sailing.
Again partnering with Anne, the “Conseil Regional” of Brittany recalls that :”The spirit of adventure, courage and determination are valued by our people as they help build the image of a dynamic Brittany”.
The Naish Corporation again will provide technical support as it had done during the 2006 Challenge.
If the Challenge is well seated in all its technical aspects, Anne Quemere would like to attract more partners in order to share this adventure with a greater number of people.

”Power source Solar and human” いいですね。動力は、太陽と人っていうのが。モデル名は、Soleckshaw Mark IIとIIIとかいうらしいです。電動アシストがついたことで、リキシャワーラーの収入などがあがり、労働環境の改善にもつながる効果も見込まれるとのことです。
日本でも人力のベロタクシーが走っている町があります。そのベロタクシーにバッテリーとモーターで動かせば、日本版の電動オートリキシャはできそうですが、法規などが問題になるんでしょうね。はやり日本では、シンプルに人力のみというのがいいのかもしれません。(t_t)

今回のプレスリリースによれば、海外が先行し、汎用タイプの燃料電池を搭載したフォークリフトが世界にはあるようなので、興味があったので調べてみました。Proton Power Systemsが最初にでてきました。汎用の燃料電池のパッケージもリリースしているので、基本的なスペックの目当てとして使えそうです。
ベルリンでダイムラーと独電力会社・RWEが2009年より”電動 smart”100台の大規模プロジェクトを開始すると発表しました。ダイムラーが100台のSmart EV を用意し、電力会社のRWEが500箇所の充電スタンドを用意するという大規模で、本格的な運用を目指しています。すでにロンドンでの電動カーの運用を発表しているダイムラーは、激化する電動カーの分野で一歩先んじた動きをはじめることになります。

The solar PV cells on the wings and horizontal tail of the plane will supply sufficient energy to complete the fuel cell power for takeoff and for on-board power supply. Apart from this, the plane will be propelled by an electric engine, more silent and more effective at high altitude than heat engines.
LISA Airplanes has already produced a scale model and expects to complete assembly of the real plane by the end of 2009. LISA Airplanes expects to make a series of full-scale test runs and introduce the Hy-Bird project, its technologies, its values and its partners in several countries where interest in renewable energies is growing rapidly. The Hy-Bird is expected to take off for its around-the-world flight, from West to East, through various stages of approximately 1500 kilometers.
